In astrological circles, the planet Saturn often receives the designation “malefic” for its associations with fear, restriction, limits, and rigidity.

Yet when we become conscious of its true archetypal meaning and purpose, we benefit from its equally applicable correlations with foundation, structure, discipline, and mastery. In keeping with its Greek counterpart, Kronos, Saturn marks time for us on our path to maturity and wisdom. When we face our fears and meet its challenges, we develop a solid foundation within, an ego structure, flexible enough to engage and balance the transpersonal energies and spiritual gifts symbolized by Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto—without losing integrity, function, or sanity.

Participants are invited to share their birth date, time and place if they would like to correlate their personal life experiences with the placement of Saturn in their birth chart during class discussions.  We will explore how the signs, house placements, and its aspects with other planets in the chart combine to offer valuable guidance for negotiating our struggles with limitation, deprivation, anxiety, and depression, and for developing the blessings suggested by this planet’s symbolism—wisdom, mastery, and personal authority. By learning Saturn’s lessons, we can live a more conscious, meaningful, and purposeful life.

We will strive to appreciate the relevance of Saturnian symbolism for personal growth, professional work with clients, and the spiritual journey. Completion of the three-week series, “The Astrological Birth Chart,” or a basic understanding of astrology is recommended for this class but not required. Saturn: A New Look at an Old Devil by Liz Greene will serve as a resource, but other references and handouts will also be provided.
